Billing and payment methods

Platform postage runs through your Account Balance. Available credit applies first (when auto-apply is on); your card only tops up any shortfall. Manage balance and cards under Account → Billing.
Open Billing
- Open Account → Billing (
/account/billing).
Payment methods
- Under Payment methods, select Add payment method (or Replace payment method).
- Complete the payment form and save.
- Keep at least one card on file — required for checkout shortfalls, carrier adjustments, and settling amount owed.
Account Balance
Billing shows your Account Balance below payment methods:
- Available credit (positive) — from top-ups, balance coupons, refunds, or failed-purchase recovery.
- Amount owed (negative) — deferred charges that settle to your default card when owed reaches $25 or on a weekly settle, whichever comes first.
On a custom-domain portal, Account Balance and saved cards live on that portal’s database with its own users. Portal owners and collaborators bill the portal owner’s balance (matched by account email), not each shipper’s personal wallet.
Auto-apply
When Automatically apply Account Balance at checkout is enabled, available credit appears as an Account Balance line in the checkout pricing summary and reduces what your card is charged (the shortfall top-up).
Add funds
Use Add funds to open a checkout popup, confirm payment (saved card or a new card), and increase spendable credit (minimum $10, maximum $500). Prepaid / gift cards are not accepted.
Settlement failures
If a settlement charge fails, new label purchases may be blocked until you fix the card and use Retry settlement.
Coupons
Classic coupons still discount a single checkout. Admin credit to account balance coupons add funds to your Account Balance when redeemed instead of reducing that cart’s total.
Transactions
Use Transactions & carrier adjustments on the same Billing page for payment history and carrier adjustment rows. Balance activity appears under Account Balance.
When Place Order fails with payment required
- Add or replace the payment method.
- If purchases are blocked for settlement, retry settlement or contact support.
- Confirm you selected a NitroMule platform rate (not only a BYOA row that failed for another reason).
- Place Order again.
Postage vs plan
- Postage for NitroMule rates is charged per successful label purchase through Account Balance (existing credit, then card top-up).
- Your own carrier account postage is billed by UPS/USPS/FedEx under that contract — see Your own accounts.
- After Void, refunds credit your Account Balance by default — see Refund a label.
